Cuong is a recognized expert in his field of discipline. He began working in the real estate industry in 1998. He previously progressed through the ranks of Peterson & Co. and RPR Partners, LLP for six and fourteen years respectively. These companies have since merged with international CPA firms Baker Tilly and Ernst & Young, LLP. For the four years preceding the founding of Pham Yaeger LLP, he was a partner at a local boutique tax CPA firm, O’Donnell & Smiley, where Cuong was a leader in that firm’s research and training of technical tax developments. Cuong became the go to guy at his former firms where he specialized in the areas of partnership, corporate and individual compliance and consulting.

Cuong is highly involved in business and personal tax planning strategies for multi-tiered entity structures. His accomplishments as an expert in real estate income tax deferral techniques and long-term planning objectives are well respected by his clientele and the legal community. He is a difference maker with respect to real estate transaction consulting and collaborates with the top lawyers in the industry.

For over twenty years, Cuong has been a tax consultant to many of the largest real estate companies in San Diego, as well as their owners. He continues to focus on providing consulting and compliance services for real estate developers, home builders, management companies, and high net worth individuals. Additionally, Cuong provides clients with innovative and new ideas in order to meet their overall tax goals, such as §1031 structuring, installment sales, options, cost segregation studies, capital gain planning, estate planning, and more. He actively partakes in structuring specific business transactions, reviewing the applicable legal documents, and analyzing the overall impact of the transaction for the present and future tax implications.

Cuong holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, San Diego, with graduate studies at San Diego State University in their Master of Science in Accountancy, Emphasis in Taxation program. He likes to spend all of his free time with his sweet darling wife, Marlynn and their five wonderful children.
